Post-operative Bracing
Hinged and fracture braces fitted at Johannesburg Surgical Hospital and Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital.
About post-operative bracing
After an operation on a joint or a bone, your surgeon may ask for a brace to protect the repair while it heals. The brace holds the area steady, or lets it move only as far as your surgeon wants, so that you can start moving again safely.
We fit these braces in hospital, usually before you go home. Our team works on site at Johannesburg Surgical Hospital and Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital, alongside the surgeons who operate there.
Braces we often fit after surgery:
- Hinged knee braces, set to the range of movement your surgeon allows
- Hip braces after a hip replacement or a hip arthroscopy
- Shoulder slings and elbow braces after a repair to the arm
- Fracture braces and walking boots
- Back and neck braces after spinal surgery
We show you how to put the brace on and take it off, and how to wear it. If it needs adjusting as you recover, come and see us at the practice.
Not sure which you need? Phone us on 011 782 7809 to book an assessment, and we’ll work it out with you. Read what happens at your first visit.
