Hip Braces
Hip braces that support the joint and limit movement after surgery or injury.
About hip braces
A hip brace supports the hip joint and controls how far it can move. It is worn after a hip operation to protect the repair while it heals, or to ease the pain of osteoarthritis (OA, wear of the cartilage in the joint) in the hip.
We fit two hip braces made by Össur: the Rebound® Hip, for after surgery, and the Unloader® Hip, for arthritis.
The sections below explain how each one works and who it is for.

Össur Rebound® Hip
Suits: recovery after a hip arthroscopy, or a gluteus medius or hamstring repair
A brace for the weeks after a hip operation. It gently controls the hip and limits how far the leg can bend, straighten and move out to the side, so the repair is protected while you start moving again.
An optional hinge lets your surgeon set how far the leg may move outwards, in steps of 10 degrees.
It is used after:
- Hip arthroscopy (keyhole surgery on the hip)
- Gluteus medius repair (a muscle on the side of the hip)
- Hamstring repair (the muscles at the back of the thigh)

Össur Unloader® Hip
Suits: mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the hip
A brace for mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the hip. As you walk, its straps turn the thigh slightly outwards and away from the body, which moves the load in the joint onto cartilage that is less worn.
It is slim, and it tightens with a simple pulley, so it is easy to put on and adjust yourself.
