Mobility Aids
Everyday folding wheelchairs, and specialised chairs, manual or electric.
About mobility aids
A wheelchair gets you around when walking is hard or not possible. We keep everyday folding wheelchairs at the practice, such as the Swift, and set each one up to fit you.
If you need a specialised wheelchair, manual or electric, we can provide that for you too. We help you choose it by how you will use it and what your budget allows.
Below are the folding wheelchairs we keep, then how we help with a specialised chair. If you only need a chair for a few weeks, you can hire one through Medi Rent.

Everyday folding wheelchairs
Plain, sturdy chairs that fold flat for the car or a cupboard. You can push yourself on the large back wheels, or a carer can push from behind.
Swift folding wheelchair
Suits: everyday use, pushed by you or a carer
The folding wheelchair we keep at the practice, made in Europe. A light aluminium frame, large back wheels you can push yourself on, and footrests that swing out of the way.

Standard folding wheelchair
Suits: occasional use, mostly indoors, pushed by you or a carer
A steel frame with arms and footrests that come off, and solid tyres that cannot go flat. It is the simplest chair to own and to keep going. A leg rest that lifts can be added for someone who needs to keep a leg straight.

Heavy-duty folding wheelchair
Suits: heavier users, and people who often go outside
A reinforced frame with bigger front wheels that cope better with paving and gravel. Choose short arms to sit close to a table, or full-length arms to lean on when standing up.

Lightweight, transit and porter chairs
Suits: people who want a lighter chair for the car, or who are pushed by a carer
We also keep lightweight aluminium folding wheelchairs, and transit and porter chairs that a carer pushes. Ask us which suits you.
Specialised wheelchairs
Specialised wheelchairs, manual or electric
Suits: people who need more than an everyday folding chair
If you need a specialised wheelchair, we can provide it: a light active chair you push yourself all day, a comfort chair that tilts or reclines, a power chair you steer with a joystick, or a mobility scooter.
Each is chosen for how you will use it and what your budget allows, so we start by talking it through with you.
